46/100Average

A better-built recipe than its label lets it prove. The analysis is strong, with protein at 44.4% and fat at 30.6% of dry matter, but each pouch names only 4% of its animal content. Beef and veg, chicken and veg, lamb and poultry all land in our Average band.

Our view

Likely to suit

  • Dogs that prefer a fresh pouch at each meal to a tin left standing in the fridge
  • Short storage space: a 100g pouch goes in one sitting and needs no covering
  • Fussy eaters. Four flavours to rotate on one underlying recipe
  • A dog better off with little starch, at an estimated 11.1% of dry matter against 15.8% for typical adult wet food
  • Smaller dogs especially; the guide puts a 5kg dog at 400g a day, four pouches

Worth watching

  • Only 4% of each pouch is a named animal; the rest sits unnamed inside meat and animal derivatives
  • Fish oil in every recipe, red meat ones included
  • Added minerals stop at zinc and iodine, and no calcium figure is printed

The least common protein of the four, a good next step for a dog bored with poultry.

Every pouch is built the same way: a block of meat and animal derivatives at 41% or 42%, with the animal on the front declared at 4% and the rest unnamed. Chicory at 0.08%, fish oil at 0.15% and various sugars appear on all four, so even the red meat pouches contain fish.

The analysis is shared too. Protein converts to 44.4% of dry matter and fat to 30.6%, with carbohydrate an estimated 11.1%. What varies is the named animal and a 1.0% dried carrot and pea mix in the beef and chicken pouches only.

The label's own guide asks 700g to 1100g a day for a dog of 10kg to 20kg, which is a good many pouches.

Budget end of the market for a wet food, though the price runs ahead of what the recipe delivers.
