How this is worked out
Feeding cost depends on two things: how much of the food your dog eats each day, and what the food costs per kilogram. This tool puts them together.
For foods in our catalogue, the daily amount comes from the brand's own feeding guide, the same table printed on the pack, looked up for your dog's weight, with puppy amounts taken from the growth rows where the brand publishes them. When a brand doesn't publish a usable guide, or you enter a food manually, we estimate the daily amount from the food's calorie content instead, and clearly label it as an estimate. The daily amount then prices up simply:
Cost/day = price per kg × grams per day ÷ 1000
Weekly and monthly costs follow from the daily figure (a month is taken as 30.44 days, the average across a year). Because we band and estimate, treat the result as a guide to compare foods and budget, rather than a precise bill.

How is the cost worked out?
For foods in our catalogue we take the daily amount the brand's own feeding guide publishes for your dog's weight, with puppy amounts from the growth rows where the brand provides them. We then multiply those grams per day by the price per kilogram. When a food has no usable feeding guide, or you enter a food manually, we estimate the daily amount from the food's calorie content instead and label the result as an estimate. Costs per week and per month follow from the daily figure.
Are the catalogue prices accurate?
They're indicative reference prices and can be out of date, and they don't include retailer discounts, subscriptions or multi-buy deals. Whenever you pick a food the price is pre-filled but fully editable, so put in what you actually pay for a figure that reflects your basket.
Why isn't my exact food listed?
The catalogue covers most UK dog foods, but not every product or pack. If yours isn't there, choose "Enter food details manually" and type in the price per kilogram and the calories per 100g from the label.
Is this a feeding guide?
No, it's a cost estimate. Where a brand publishes a feeding guide we use its amounts as the starting point, but every dog is different: treat the daily amount as a guide and feed to your dog's body condition. For puppies, weight-loss plans, pregnancy or health conditions, follow your vet's guidance.
