What keeps them from more is what the label leaves unsaid, not anything wrong in the bowl. Taurine, vitamin C and biotin are all declared, none of which a complete dry food has to include.

The single-bird choice of the two, chicken all the way through.

Both recipes are built on chicken meat meal at a minimum of 18%, the dried, rendered form whose protein reaches the kibble whole. Rice at a minimum of 18% leads the plant side, with maize and corn protein behind it, so not all of the 26% protein is animal. Poultry fat at a minimum of 6% names no bird, and the hydrolysed animal proteins name no animal.

The lower half is shared and better than the headline: peas, dried carrot, beet pulp, brewer's yeast, FOS and yeast cell walls, with glucosamine and chondroitin printed with their percentages. What varies is the fresh slot, chicken in one and salmon in the other, and the oil, linseed or sunflower.
