Our view

Likely to suit

  • Dogs kept to one animal; each recipe names a single species from the meat down to the fat
  • A chicken-sensitive dog, on the lamb or turkey version
  • Fish-free homes. Linseed covers the omegas
  • Multi-dog homes spanning sizes, toy to giant

Worth watching

  • Barley brings gluten, worth knowing in a strictly gluten-free house
  • Carbohydrate around 47% of dry matter, a touch above usual, so portion with an eye on the waistline
  • Plant omega 3 converts slowly; give skin and coat a few weeks to answer

The richest of the three, for a dog that holds its weight easily.

Each recipe holds one named animal at 40%, split as 26% dried and 14% freshly prepared, on rice at 30% and barley at 15% or 16%. Peas, beet pulp and linseed follow, then dosed prebiotics and a pinch of turmeric. No fish or fish oil appears anywhere in the range.

What varies is the animal, the fat and the energy. The chicken uses chicken fat; the lamb and turkey use rapeseed oil, so they carry no chicken at all. Protein runs from 25.5% to 28.3% of dry matter, and carbohydrate an estimated 47.2% to 47.8%.
