Our picks of dog cameras with night vision

4 picks, updated 20 September 2026

A dog camera earns its keep in the dark, because that is when most of the checking happens. An evening out, a night shift, the early hours with a new dog still settling, and the camera has the least light to work with.

Night vision comes in a few forms. There is how far it reaches, whether the picture holds colour or switches to grey infrared, and whether the lights glow in the room. The picks here cover each of those.

Our picks

  1. 1blurams Pet Camera 2K, 360 degrees

    blurams

    Pet Camera 2K, 360 degrees

    Why we picked it

Colour night vision is the reason this one is here. blurams say it can hold colour after dark as well as switching to infrared, so an evening check tells you exactly what your dog is up to. It turns a full circle, tracks movement, talks both ways and takes a memory card or their cloud.

  2. 2GALAYOU G2 Pet Camera, 2K

    GALAYOU

    G2 Pet Camera, 2K

    Why we picked it

GALAYOU fit 940nm infrared lights, which stay invisible in a dark room, so nothing in the room changes when the camera switches to night mode. That suits a dog who notices a glow near their bed. The rest is the familiar set: 2K video, a full circle of movement, motion tracking and two way audio.

  3. 3Tapo C250 Pan/Tilt Camera, 4K

    Tapo

    C250 Pan/Tilt Camera, 4K

    Why we picked it

The step up to 4K earns its place in a big open plan room, where the extra detail keeps your dog sharp from across the kitchen. Tapo say it records in 4K, sees to forty feet in the dark, detects pets as well as people, and zooms in automatically to follow what is moving. It pans a full circle too.

  4. 4Tapo C210 Pan/Tilt Camera, 2K

    Tapo

    C210 Pan/Tilt Camera, 2K

    Why we picked it

This is the camera most owners land on, and for a dog left at home it does the two things that matter. It turns a full circle, so your dog stays in view wherever they wander, and it takes a memory card, so last night is yours to keep. Tapo list 2K video, night vision to ten metres, two way audio and motion alerts.

Questions people ask

Can dogs see the infrared light on a camera?

Ordinary infrared at 850nm gives off a faint red glow that people and dogs can both see in a dark room. The 940nm lights GALAYOU use stay invisible, which is worth having if your dog watches the camera at night.

How far does dog camera night vision reach?

It varies by model, so the maker's figure is the one to check. Tapo quote ten metres on the C210 and forty feet on the C250, and Imou ten metres on theirs. Measure from where the camera will sit to where your dog sleeps.

Is colour night vision better on a dog camera?

Colour is easier to read. Grey infrared tells you a dog is on the sofa, and colour tells you which dog and what they are chewing. blurams list both modes on theirs, so you get colour with a little ambient light and infrared in full darkness.

Where should a dog camera go in a dark room?

Closer than you might think, and pointed at the bed instead of the middle of the floor. Night vision reach is measured in a straight line, so halving the distance does more for the picture than any upgrade.
