Our current picks of cheap dog cameras
3 picks, updated 20 September 2026
A low cost dog camera answers the question just as well. Is the dog asleep or is the dog pacing? You can see that at any resolution here, and these three all turn to follow the room.
What you keep lower down the range is the part that matters for a dog. The camera turns, so your dog stays in view wherever they settle, and there is a card slot, so the running cost stays at nothing. Two way audio comes as standard as well.

Tapo
TC70 Pan/Tilt Camera, 1080p
Why we picked it
Full HD answers the question most owners have, which is whether the dog sleeps or paces, and this is the straightforward way to find out. It still turns a full circle, still talks both ways, and still takes a memory card, so the running cost can stay at nothing. Tapo add Alexa and Google Assistant support.

Imou
2K Pan/Tilt Camera
Why we picked it
Privacy mode is the useful part for a camera that lives in a living room. One tap in the app turns the lens into its own housing, so it sees nothing while you are home. Imou also list 2K video with eight times digital zoom, night vision to ten metres, human detection to cut false alerts, and a built in siren.

Questions people ask
Are cheap dog cameras any good?
For watching a dog, yes. A camera that turns, talks both ways and sees in the dark does the job at every band here. The picture is sharp enough to tell sleeping from pacing.
What do you get higher up the camera range?
Resolution, mostly. A 2K or 4K picture holds more detail across a large room and on a dark coat at night. In a normal sized room with the camera reasonably close, the three here read clearly.
Do dog cameras work on any wifi?
Check the band before you buy. Several of these cameras, the wansview included, run on 2.4GHz, and some routers keep that band behind a combined network name. Splitting it out in the router settings is a five minute job.
Is it worth buying two dog cameras instead of one?
Often, yes. Two rooms covered beats one room covered sharply, which is why Tapo sell the C210 as a two pack. Most people who start with one end up wanting a second.
