The whole line comes out in our Good band, which is where a typical adult dry food finishes as well. The duck edges the salmon, with the turkey next and the weight recipe further back again. All four share a construction, so the gaps are narrow and mostly about what is doing the carrying. Carbohydrate converts to 40.0% of dry matter in the duck, 45.0% in the salmon and 45.6% in the turkey, against 46.2% for the typical adult dry food. The weight recipe leans hardest on starch at 52.2%, the trade for taking fat down to 7.6% of dry matter. Protein and processing comes back Good on three of the four and Average on the weight recipe, which is the clearest line between them.

Each recipe opens with a dried meat meal, and that matters more than the fresh meat behind it. Meal comes in already dried, so the weight going in is near enough the weight in the finished kibble. Fresh meat, by contrast, loses most of its bulk in the oven. The duck recipe declares 35% total duck across both forms, and the salmon and turkey 39% each, which is a solid anchor for an everyday bowl.

The binding is done by peas, potatoes and sweet potato, with unmolassed beet pulp behind them for fibre. The vegetables headline of at least 44% is worth reading closely, because it counts the starchy peas and potatoes rather than a bowl of greens. Carrots, and cranberries in the turkey, sit far enough down the list to be a garnish.

Chicken fat is the main added fat in the duck, turkey and weight recipes, and it turns up in the salmon one too. Salmon oil runs through all four as the omega 3 source, with full fat linseed adding the plant version of the same fats. It makes for a well oiled set of recipes. It also means neither chicken nor fish can be avoided anywhere in the range.

The joint thinking is real but unmeasured. Glucosamine and green-lipped mussel are on every label, and for an older dog the mussel is the more interesting of the pair. Neither carries a dose in print. Milk thistle, yucca, seaweed and the herb tail sit at the same trace end of the list. They are a flourish, and not the reason to choose the bag.

The duck and salmon labels print their trace minerals in full, including zinc at 135mg and 132mg per kilo, with a further 38mg and 37mg supplied as a glycine chelate. A dog's gut copes best with the chelated form. The turkey and weight recipes do not carry the same panel, so their doses cannot be read off as things stand.

Turkey at a declared 39% in total, with cranberries joining the fruit tail. Moisture is not declared on this label, so the dry matter column assumes 8%, the standard figure for a kibble, and the additive panel is not published alongside it.

£4.74 a kilo for the duck, £4.71 for the salmon and the turkey, and £4.68 for the weight recipe. All four come in 3kg and 14kg bags.

As a guide, a 15kg adult dog in moderate condition works out at between £1.10 and £1.26 a day across the range, assuming about 840 kcal a day (110 × bodyweight^0.75, the standard maintenance estimate). The duck label asks 201 grams a day for that dog and the weight recipe 236 grams. Where they disagree, go by the waistline.
