Michie's of Cornwall Premium Complete Adult – Wild Venison

Michie's of Cornwall

Michie's of Cornwall Premium Complete Adult: Wild Venison review

86.9/100Outstanding
RawAdult

Five Outstanding raw recipes you could nearly gather from a butcher and a greengrocer, with a percentage against every entry. Liver is held at 10% in every tub, and there is no premix: a short line of botanicals and oils does that job. The Turkey with Lamb stands level with the rest.

Our view

Likely to suit

  • Exclusion diets, as the Chicken, the Turkey and the Venison each keep to one land animal
  • A percentage against everything, meat, offal, vegetables and fruit
  • Smaller dogs and smaller freezers: 500g and 1kg packs
  • Dogs that suit some plant matter alongside the meat
  • Rotation feeders, since the five share one build and swap the animal

Worth watching

  • Organic cod liver oil in all five, so fish reaches the bowl whatever you serve
  • Cooked white potato and sweet potato in every tub, so not a starch-free bowl
  • No calcium figure; the ingredient line is where the bone content has to be read
  • Freezer to fridge to thaw, then the bowl, the board and your hands to wash

For a dog that piles on the pounds too readily, the pick of the five.

Every tub is built to one plan: 70% meat and offal, with liver at 10% in all five. Bone comes in through the meat, with no separate mineral entry, and no calcium figure is printed, so ash is the only clue to it. The plant fraction is identical across the range, carrot, two cooked potatoes, apple and broccoli or runner beans, each with a percentage.

The cooked potatoes lift carbohydrate to between 11.4% and 16.1% of dry matter, where the typical raw food sits at 5.0%. Organic cod liver oil is in every tub.
