Green Petfood InsectDog – High Protein With Insects & Salmon

Green Petfood

Green Petfood InsectDog: High Protein With Insects & Salmon review

57.8/100Good
DryAdultSenior

Complete dry food built on insect protein, which almost no dog has met before. Five recipes share that base, from High Protein in our Good band to four in Average. For a dog whose system has fallen out with conventional meat, the quietest recipe here may still be the right one.

Our view

Likely to suit

  • Dogs that have worked through chicken, beef and lamb without success
  • Owners who want a lower-impact protein in a complete dry food
  • Rotation within one base and one feeding system
  • Older dogs, taurine and L-carnitine dosed on every panel
  • Big dogs, several feeding tables running to 80kg

Worth watching

  • No insect species named, and unnamed oils and fats, enough to unpick a strict elimination trial
  • No zinc, copper or selenium on the High Protein panel
  • Starch carrying the Sensitive and Vitality, at 57.0% and 58.3% of dry matter

Five recipes across Good and Average. Typical dry food: Good.

The more of the bowl that comes from a named animal, the higher a recipe lands; none of that measures the job these foods are built for.

The meatiest build in the range, and as much a fish food as an insect one.

Every recipe is built on insect protein, at 10% to 20%, and none names the insect. Some pair it with salmon or duck; the rest keep the animal side to insects alone. The plant side varies most: pea flour, lentil and tapioca in the grain-free builds, potato and sweet potato in two, rice leading the Sensitive and Vitality.

Unnamed oils and fats appear on four of the five, poultry fat on the Mini. Taurine and L-carnitine are dosed on every panel, and no label declares moisture, so the dry matter figures rest on an assumed 8%.
