Edgard & Cooper Adult Bio-Organic Cups: Turkey review

All three cups land in our Excellent band, with the beef cup a shade ahead of the turkey and the fish. Protein and processing reads Excellent on all three, nutritional balance Outstanding, and value Excellent throughout. Transparency is Outstanding on the beef and the turkey and Good on the fish, so this is a range doing the difficult parts properly. Plenty of adult wet foods reach the Excellent band, so the honest summary is that these cups sit comfortably among the better part of an already strong category rather than out on their own. What separates them from the rest of that band is the organic sourcing and a recipe that is almost entirely animal, with no water declared and the plant side kept to a whisper.

These lists are short and they are nearly all meat. The beef cup opens with organic beef at 51% before organic pork and organic chicken. The turkey cup opens with organic turkey at 26% ahead of the same three. The fish cup names organic fish at 14%, with organic beef and chicken above it and pork below. Every entry carries the organic asterisk, which the label ties to production from fully controlled organic farming.

The analysis follows from that construction. Protein sits at 9.5% as fed and converts to 52.8% of dry matter on all three, which is at the top end of what a wet food manages. Fat converts to between 27.8% and 30.6%. Carbohydrate converts to an estimated 2.7% to 5.5% of dry matter against 15.8% for the typical adult wet food. Worked out by difference, the estimate tends to overstate on wet food, so the real figure is lower still.

Underneath the meat there is barely anything. The beef and turkey cups add organic coconut and organic chia seeds at 0.15% each, with organic rosehip and organic chamomile at 0.1%. The fish cup swaps in organic carrot at 2% and organic peas at 2%, with fennel joining the rosehip and chamomile. They season the food and nothing more. With the meat already doing the work, that is exactly what you want.

Moisture is 82.0% on all three cups, which is what wet food is, and energy runs at 85 to 87 kcal per 100g, so daily portions look large next to anything fed from a scoop. Many households serve a cup like this alongside a dry meal.

The added panel is minimal: zinc at 15.2 mg, manganese at 3.2 mg and iodine at 0.5 mg. No vitamins are printed and there are no technological additives at all, the maker's own additive line for them being blank. Meat this dominant brings much of its own micronutrition with it. A careful reader will still notice that no vitamin line is printed.

Organic turkey at 26% leading a cup that also contains organic beef, pork and chicken, so the turkey name describes the flavour rather than the whole recipe. It shares its analysis with the fish cup, at 30.6% fat on a dry matter basis and 87 kcal per 100g, and takes the coconut, chia, rosehip and chamomile tail.

As a guide, a 15kg adult dog in moderate condition eats roughly 964 to 992 grams a day, assuming about 840 kcal a day (110 × bodyweight^0.75, the standard maintenance estimate). That comes to between £13.61 and £13.99 a day. The label's own guide stops at a 10 kg dog, where it gives 620 grams a day.
