These pouches come out in our Good band, and it is worth saying what that does and does not mean. Adult wet food is a strong field, with the typical pouch or tin reaching our Excellent band, so the bar is set high. A recipe that pins 4% of one animal to a species does not clear it. Protein and processing reads Poor for exactly that reason. Nutritional balance is much steadier and reads Outstanding, with protein converting to 47.1% of dry matter and the estimated carbohydrate to only 11.7%, well under the 15.8% carried by typical adult wet food. This is a perfectly reasonable senior dinner that tells you very little about itself.

The build is a chunk of typically 46% of the pouch in gravy, with meat and animal derivatives at 89% or 90% inside that chunk. Turkey, chicken or lamb is named at 4% depending on the recipe, and that one figure is all the label says about which animal your dog is eating.

Rice is the single grain named, at 1.1% dried and equivalent to 4% once cooked, sitting inside a wider cereals entry that is never broken down. Rice is a gentle, easily digested carbohydrate and a sensible choice for an older gut, though how much of the cereal share it accounts for is not something the pack answers.

Yeast arrives with mannan-oligosaccharides declared at 0.1%. Yeast cell walls are where these prebiotic sugars come from, and their job is to feed the helpful bacteria living in the large intestine. At that level it is a nudge, and a sensible one for a dog in later life.

Cassia gum at 1904 mg per kilo thickens the gravy. It is pressed from senna seed and turns up right across wet pet food. If you like to keep gums and gels out of your dog's bowl, this is the entry to be aware of.

The analysis is kinder than the ingredient list reads. Protein converts to 47.1% of dry matter, fat to 29.4% and fibre to only 1.2%. At 83 kcal per 100g this is light food, and an older dog can eat plenty of it without much sitting heavily. The nutritional additives are each dosed per kilo across vitamin D3, vitamin E, copper, iodine, iron, manganese and zinc.

As a guide, an energy-based estimate puts a 15kg adult dog in moderate condition at roughly 1012 grams a day, on an assumption of about 840 kcal (110 × bodyweight^0.75, the standard maintenance estimate). On the maker's own guide that dog is fed less, 700 to 750 grams a day.
