This range lands in our Good band. There is still ground to make up here, because adult wet food scores strongly overall and the middle of the category reaches our Excellent band. Almost all of the gap is in the meat: 4% of a named animal with a category term for everything else pulls protein and processing down to Poor. Transparency and nutritional balance both read Outstanding. The pouch itself is not a poor meal. Protein converts to 41.0% of dry matter and the estimated carbohydrate to 19.0%, a little above the 15.8% typical of adult wet food but unremarkable for a recipe built on cereals and jelly.

The construction is identical across the four recipes. A chunk, typically 46% of the pouch, sits in jelly, and inside that chunk meat and animal derivatives run to 84% or 89% depending on the recipe. One animal is named at 4%, and that single figure is the whole of what you are told about the meat.

Meat and animal derivatives is a labelling category, not a description of what is in the pouch. It reaches across any warm-blooded land animal and any part of one, from the genuinely good to the very ordinary. What goes into the mix can differ from one batch to the next with no change to the pack. A great deal of large-brand wet food is written this way, so it is not a warning sign in itself. The named turkey, lamb, beef or chicken is the only meat you can actually point at.

The vegetables make for nicer reading. Dried carrots at 0.6% rehydrate to 4% carrots, a dried carrot and pea mix at 0.8% comes to 4% of the pouch, and tomato powder at 0.2% flavours the turkey recipe. Carrots carry vitamin A and soluble fibre and peas bring fibre with a little plant protein, though at these levels they season the recipe rather than feed the dog.

Cassia gum at 1901 mg per kilo is the thickener that gives the jelly its set. It comes from senna seed and is used widely across wet pet food. On this label it is the single entry a cautious owner is most likely to want flagged.

The nutritional additives are short and each is dosed per kilo: vitamin D3, vitamin E, copper, iodine, iron, manganese and zinc. Behind them the analysis is workmanlike, with protein at 8.0% as fed and fat at 5.4%, converting to 41.0% and 27.7% of dry matter once the moisture is taken out.
