Carnilove Pate Cans: Turkey & Salmon (for puppies) review

83.8/100Outstanding
WetPuppy

Short lists you can read on the shelf, built on animals most ranges never touch: pheasant, wild boar and reindeer sit beside turkey and lamb. Every can lands in our Excellent band or better. A can of duck and pheasant tells you it is 41% duck and 26% pheasant, so there is no guesswork about the meat.

Our view

Likely to suit

  • Owners who like a label short enough to read on the shelf
  • Dogs bored of the everyday meats
  • Grain-avoiding homes. Pea flour at 2% is the only starch on any can
  • Puppies, on a Turkey & Salmon can built to a growth analysis
  • A declared energy figure on every can, and added taurine in all five

Worth watching

  • Lignocellulose at 1%, a purified fibre powder doing a job we would rather see a named vegetable do
  • Salmon in the two Turkey & Salmon cans, one to note for a dog kept off fish
  • Pea flour's plant protein, which the printed protein figure cannot separate from the meat

The one to choose for a puppy of any size.

Every can is two or three named animals, each with a percentage, making up just over two thirds of the contents. Then come water and a short tail: blackcurrant at 2%, pea flour at 2%, lignocellulose at 1% and calcium carbonate. Protein converts to between 36.4% and 45.5% of dry matter, and fat runs high, as a proper pâté should.

The added panel is the same on every can, taurine included, bar a higher copper dose on the puppy recipe. Fish appears only in the two turkey and salmon cans.
