Wellness Core

Wellness Core 95%: Chicken & Duck With Carrots review

77.3/100Excellent
WetAdult

All five trays sit in our Excellent band, and the label could hardly be more literal: 95% animal, split between named meat and organ and that animal's own broth. Each recipe then adds one vegetable and a mineral premix. Broth declared with a percentage is far more useful than water slipped in without one.

Our view

Likely to suit

  • Dogs that need a single named animal. The beef, the lamb and the turkey with kale each keep to one species
  • Owners who want the split spelled out: 66% named meat and organ, 29% broth
  • Dogs kept off cereal
  • Rotation feeders. Five trays built to one pattern, only the animal changing
  • Older dogs as well as adults, on the beef tray only

Worth watching

  • The two mixed trays add 10% duck or goat, so a dog avoiding either needs the single-animal ones
  • A lot of organ meat, which is richer fare than muscle alone
  • Energy runs from 92 kcal per 100g on the chicken and duck to 132 on the beef, so portions move when you switch

All five Excellent. Typical wet food: Excellent.

Very little separates the five trays, and a 95% meat range finishing here is a fair result.

The turkey and goat is the other mixed tray.

The lightest tray in the range, which means the biggest bowl.

Every tray is 95% animal. On the beef, lamb and turkey with kale it splits 66% named meat and organ to 29% of that animal's own broth. The chicken and duck and the turkey and goat run 56% plus 29% broth, with 10% of a second animal. Hearts, livers, lungs and necks are named on the lists.

One vegetable per recipe at 3.5% or 4%, matched to the meat, and no cereal anywhere. Sunflower oil at 0.5% appears on the beef and the lamb only. The added panel is short: vitamin D3 at 200 IU and zinc at 25 mg per kilo on every tray, copper on three of the five.
