Wainwright's
Wainwright's Puppy Dry Food: Lamb & Rice review
Three single-animal puppy kibbles that reach our Good band on one shared rice and barley base. Only the meat changes from bag to bag, which makes it easy to swap a pup from lamb to salmon to turkey while you find what agrees with it. The labels are well declared, with one gap that matters for big puppies.

Our view
Likely to suit
- Puppies kept to one animal. Each bag names a single meat and nothing else
- Narrowing down a sensitivity, with only the meat changing between bags
- Homes happy with cereal: rice at 26% and whole grain barley in every recipe
- Pups that put on condition easily. Energy runs 342 to 346 kcal per 100g, under the 376 typical of a puppy kibble
- Owners who like a meat claim split into its dried and fresh parts
Worth watching
- No calcium level on any bag, so a pup that will grow large has nothing on the label to check its growth against
- Carbohydrate at 42.4% to 44.0% of dry matter, above the 39.0% of the middle puppy dry food
- Rice, barley and oats in every recipe, so none fits a grain-free plan

All three Good. Typical dry food: Good.
Salmon and turkey sit level at the top, and the lamb bag trails them on its smaller meat share.
What's in it
- Lamb: dried lamb, freshly prepared lamb26%19% dried and 7% fresh. The dried share is the one that counts in a kibble.
- Rice26%Cooks down to a starch most puppies digest comfortably.
- Maize proteinLifts the declared protein without giving what an animal protein gives.
- Whole grain barley9%
- Rapeseed oilA plant oil, so the single-animal claim holds.
- Whole ground oats, beet pulp4.5%, 4%Beet pulp looks after the fibre.
- Dried peas3%Equivalent to 12.5% fresh peas. A little plant protein and fibre.
- Linseed2%Plant omega 3 for coat and skin.

The only red meat of the three, so it suits a pup that has already met poultry and fish.

The lowest meat share in the range, and the bag to reach for once poultry and fish are done.
Every bag keeps to one animal, declared as a dried portion and a freshly prepared one. The dried figure survives into the kibble close to its printed value, so it is the one to read first. Salmon and turkey are declared at 36%, lamb at 26%.
The base does not change: rice at 26%, whole grain barley, oats at 4.5%, maize protein, rapeseed oil as the only added fat, then beet pulp, peas, linseed, carrots and seaweed. The vitamin and trace element panel is identical on all three, selenium as sodium selenite. No bag prints a calcium figure.
