Vale RAW Purely Minces – Duck

Vale Pet Foods

Vale Pet Foods Vale RAW Purely Minces: Duck review

78.1/100Excellent
RawAdult

Four Outstanding minces and an Excellent duck, each one a single animal ground with its own bone and offal and nothing else in the tub. These are among the shortest labels you will read anywhere. The choice comes down to the animal and how rich a bowl your dog wants.

Our view

Likely to suit

  • Strict exclusion plans: one named species per tub, no oils or extras
  • Owners who want percentages. Meat, bone and offal are declared at 80%, 10% and 10%
  • A first try of an unfamiliar protein, with venison alongside the everyday four
  • Rotation feeding, as only the animal changes from tub to tub
  • Single-dog homes; every mince comes in a 1kg tub

Worth watching

  • Freezer space, a fridge thaw and the usual raw hygiene over bowls, boards and hands
  • No vitamin or mineral panel printed anywhere, so the micronutrition rests on the offal and bone
  • Big swings in richness, so a move from the turkey to the beef means rethinking the portion

The details

Dog fit

Listed for adult dogs. Check which mince you are moving to before you portion it, since the beef runs more than twice as rich as the turkey.

The score, in context
  1. Beef 88.3
  2. Venison 84.8
  3. Chicken 84.5
  4. Turkey 83.3
  5. Duck 78.1

Five recipes across Outstanding and Excellent. Typical raw food: Outstanding.

Little separates the five but the animal, and the duck sits a step behind mainly because its panel reads oddly.

What's in it
  • Duck80%
  • Duck bone10%
  • Duck offal10%Not broken down further.

The panel declares 25.0% moisture, far drier than a raw mince usually reads, and the carbohydrate estimate that follows has no ingredient to come from. Read this tub by its ingredients.

Named ingredients

80% Duck, 10% Duck Bone, 10% Duck Offal
Against the range
Moisture
25.0%, declared
Undeclared on the other four.
Carbohydrate, estimated
36.0%
Zero on the rest, as nothing on any label makes it.
Band
Excellent
Outstanding on the other four.

On the label itself it is the same recipe as its four siblings.

Every tub is built the same way in three entries: 80% meat, 10% bone and 10% offal, all from one named animal. There is no vegetable, no added oil and no vitamin or mineral premix, so ground bone carries the calcium and the offal carries much of the micronutrition.

What moves between the five is the animal and how rich it runs. Fat as fed goes from 5.2% on the turkey to 24.1% on the beef, and moisture is declared only on the duck, so the other four convert on the 69.6% we assume for raw.
