Vale Pet Foods Vale RAW Minces With Veg: Chicken & Veg review

83.3/100Outstanding
RawPuppyAdult

Five raw minces, all in our Outstanding band, and each one keeps to a single animal from meat through bone to offal. That is rare in raw, and it holds up here because nothing from another species goes in. Beef, chicken, lamb, turkey and venison each get their own mince.

Our view

Likely to suit

  • Dogs on an exclusion diet. The only animal in each recipe is the one on the front
  • Vegetables in a raw bowl without a long list of extras
  • Dogs reacting to the everyday meats, with venison as a protein most have never met
  • Feeding from puppyhood to old age, as all five are listed for every life stage
  • Raw feeders who want organ meats declared: kidney and liver are a tenth of every recipe

Worth watching

  • The beef's declared fat reads oddly high against the rest of its panel, so portion that one by eye and condition
  • No vitamin or mineral panel. Bone, offal and sea kelp are expected to cover it
  • Freezer room, a night thawing in the fridge, and the usual hygiene with bowls, boards and hands

All five Outstanding. Typical raw food: Outstanding.

Holding the top band five times over, with a different animal each time, is the achievement here; the five sit close enough that your dog's preferred animal should decide.

Gentle on energy, so the portions are among the biggest in the range.

Every mince follows the same arithmetic: 70% named meat with a tenth of the recipe as that animal's bone, 10% kidney and liver from the same animal, and 20% broccoli, carrot, turmeric and sea kelp. Nothing else goes in, so there is no oil from another species, no premix and no unnamed fat.

What moves is the analysis. Ash runs from 3.0% of dry matter on the beef to 14.8% on the chicken. Estimated energy runs from 133 kcal per 100g on the venison to 269 kcal on the beef, so a swap means a new portion.
