Salubrious Healthy Dog Food Cold-Pressed Immunity: Turkey review

This recipe comes out in our Good band, with the wider cold-pressed field typically settling in that same band. The finishing block is more generous than most rivals bother with, and what keeps the result where it is comes from the middle of the label rather than the end of it.

A 32% turkey share is moderate, protein converts to 28.9% of dry matter, and carbohydrate reaches 49.0% against 43.2% for cold-pressed food generally. Transparency reads Outstanding, protein and processing and value each read Good, and nutritional balance reads Average, so what you have is a well stocked label built on a starch heavy base.

Ingredients, as declared: Turkey (32%), sweet potato (27%), potato (20%), salmon protein (5%), goose oil (5%), whole egg (5%), beet pulp, cane molasses, brewer's yeast, vitamins and minerals, liver gravy, prebiotic (inulin), alfalfa, salmon oil, sunflower oil. Herbal blend (0.25% chicory root, parsley, thyme, nettle leaf, rosemary, camomile leaf, sage, yucca extract, rosehip, dandelion leaf, turmeric, aniseed). Joint care blend, glucosamine (0.1%), collagen (0.08%), spirulina (0.06%), green lipped mussel (0.05%), chondroitin sulphate (0.05%).

Pressing at low temperature is the reason a recipe like this can be finished the way it is. Nothing in the mix goes through the high heat of conventional kibble production, which is precisely the argument for adding delicate things such as spirulina and herbs to a cold-pressed pellet in the first place.

Turkey at 32% leads. It is lean and digestible, and palatable enough to suit a recipe aimed at everyday feeding. Salmon protein at 5% and whole egg at 5% support it, with goose oil at 5% doing the fat work. Plenty of labels never name the bird their fat comes from, so this one is ahead. It does mean two birds and a fish share a turkey recipe.

Carbohydrate reaches 49.0% of dry matter on a base of sweet potato at 27% and potato at 20%, with beet pulp behind them as fermentable fibre. Inulin is named as the prebiotic and alfalfa adds a little plant fibre. Not one cereal appears anywhere, so a grain free household is well served.

The immunity idea rests on the end of the label rather than the start. Spirulina is printed at 0.06%, and it sits with a herbal blend of a dozen plants sharing 0.25% between them, rosehip and nettle leaf and turmeric among them. Those are small inclusions and the printed figures say so honestly, which we would rather see than a vague claim with nothing behind it. The declared vitamin A, vitamin D3 and vitamin E in the additives panel, brewer's yeast for B vitamins and whole egg are the parts doing the routine work.

The joint ingredients are the most substantial extras here. Glucosamine is printed at 0.1%, collagen at 0.08%, and green lipped mussel and chondroitin sulphate at 0.05% each, which is a fuller set than most recipes at this level of the shelf carry. Households avoiding shellfish should note the green lipped mussel.
