Riverwood Mono Protein Wet Food – Wild Boar

Riverwood

Riverwood Mono Protein Wet Food: Wild Boar review

74.8/100Excellent
WetAdult

One named animal per tin and nothing else of note on the label, across eight animals from turkey and lamb to goat, horse and wild boar. Every tin earns our Excellent band. Few labels tell you as plainly which animal is in the tin.

Our view

Likely to suit

  • Exclusion diets: one animal, no second meat, no unnamed fat, no fish oil
  • Owners hunting for a genuinely new animal, with goat, horse, venison and wild boar
  • Dogs that do better without starch
  • Reading a whole label in one breath
  • A house with one dog on a restricted list and another eating anything

Worth watching

  • Veal is young beef, so no escape route from a beef reaction
  • Vitamin A on the duck and venison only, and calcium on the duck alone
  • Estimated calories on the goat, horse and wild boar tins
  • A 400 g tin is about half a day for a 15kg dog, so larger dogs get through a pack quickly

The score, in context
  1. Veal 76.5
  2. Lamb 76.2
  3. Turkey 75.8

  5. Duck 75.4
  6. Goat 75.4
  7. Horse 75.4
  8. Wild Boar 74.8

All eight Excellent. Typical wet food: Excellent.

The gap between the strongest tin and the least is small, and the range clears a high wet-food mark on what it leaves out as much as what it puts in.

Mid-range

Worth a try for a dog that has run out of common meats, unless pork is already a problem.

Every tin is four lines: 70% of one named animal, 28.5% broth or stock, minerals and 0.5% sunflower oil. There is no starch, no second meat, no unnamed fat and no fish oil anywhere in the range. The horse, lamb, turkey and veal labels name the parts that went in, organ meat included. What changes is the animal, the richness and the short added panel, with vitamin A on two tins and calcium printed on one.
