Our Excellent band holds all three recipes, which puts them above the middle of the puppy kibble market. All three read Outstanding for transparency. The beef and turkey read Outstanding for nutritional balance and the salmon Excellent, while protein and processing is Good throughout and value Excellent. Consistency earns the position. The meat share is itemised rather than asserted, the starch base is lighter than most growth foods manage, and each label prints a calcium figure instead of leaving it to trust.

Ingredients, as declared: 65% Turkey & Pork (35% Freshly Prepared Responsibly Sourced British Turkey, 23% Dried Pork, 4.5% Turkey Fat, 2.5% Turkey Gravy), Sweet Potato, Beans, Beet Pulp, Dried Superfood Blend* (Including Parsley, Papaya, Nettle, Zucchini, Pumpkin), Omega 3 Supplement, Minerals, Fructooligosaccharides (FOS, 192 mg/kg), Mannanoligosaccharides (MOS, 48 mg/kg), Olive Extract (0.01%). Vitamins: Vitamin A 15,000 IU, Vitamin D3 2,000 IU, Vitamin E 95 IU. Trace Elements: Zinc (Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate) 50 mg, Iron (Iron (II) Sulphate Monohydrate) 50 mg, Manganese (Manganous Sulphate Monohydrate) 35 mg, Copper (Copper (II) Sulphate Pentahydrate) 12 mg, Iodine (Calcium Iodate Anhydrous & Potassium Iodide) 1.7 mg, Selenium (Sodium Selenite) 0.2 mg.

The 65% headline is common to all three bags, and each one shows how it is reached. The total splits between freshly prepared meat, a dried version of the same animal, and the fat or gravy that comes with it. In that split the dried entry matters most. Its water has gone already, so it arrives in the finished kibble almost intact, while fresh meat loses much of its weight in the oven.

Sweet potato and beans bind every recipe here, with the fibre coming from beet pulp behind them. No cereal appears anywhere on the lists. Carbohydrate therefore stays between 29.9% and 35.9% of dry matter across the range, comfortably under the 39.0% a puppy kibble usually runs. Nothing starchy is being hidden behind the meat headline.

All three labels carry prebiotics, with fructooligosaccharides and mannanoligosaccharides dosed in print. They work on the gut while a young digestion is still finding its feet. Olive extract at 0.01% closes each list, and glucosamine, methylsulfonylmethane and chondroitin sulphate appear on two of the three, which the varieties section below sets out.

The mineral side is the part of a puppy label that repays a careful read, and this range holds up to one. Calcium is declared on every recipe and runs from 1.2% to 1.41% of dry matter, each figure inside the range growth is built for. That is the reason a range can honestly be offered for everything from a toy pup to a giant one, because a calcium level pitched wrong is the classic failure in rearing a big dog.

Each bag also finishes with a dried superfood blend of fruit and vegetables with a few herbs among them, changing with the recipe. The vitamin and trace element panel is fully declared, with vitamins A, D3 and E named alongside zinc, iron, manganese, copper and iodine. Treat the blends as seasoning; what these bags stand on is the meat and the mineral package behind it.

Two animals split the 65% here: 35% freshly prepared British turkey, 23% dried pork, then turkey fat at 4.5% and turkey gravy at 2.5%. Protein here is the range's highest at 40.8% of dry matter, and the fat the leanest at 15.8%. That is a useful combination for a pup who puts on condition easily, though two meats together rule the bag out for a dog on one protein. Prebiotics come in at 192 mg/kg of fructooligosaccharides and 48 mg/kg of mannanoligosaccharides, and there is no joint package on this recipe. The superfood blend is parsley, papaya, nettle, zucchini and pumpkin. Calcium converts to 1.41% of dry matter, the highest of the three and still inside the growth range.

£6.00 to £6.58 a kilo depending on the recipe, sold in 6kg, 12kg and 24kg bags, with a 15kg bag carrying working dog labelling.
