James Wellbeloved Adult Small Breed Dry – Lamb & Rice

James Wellbeloved

James Wellbeloved Adult Small Breed Dry: Lamb & Rice review

57.9/100Good
DryAdult

James Wellbeloved's rice and oat kibble, shrunk to a size a small mouth can manage. A dried meat makes up about a quarter of each bag, and the list is short enough to read to the end. The lamb is built differently, with no poultry on it. Chicken, lamb and turkey make our Good band; the fish sits a step below in Average.

Our view

Likely to suit

  • Small and toy breeds, with a kibble made to their scale
  • Owners who read the list first: a named dried meat opens every bag
  • Cereal-friendly dogs, with naked oats, barley and two rices carrying the starch
  • Poultry-free homes, in the lamb
  • Fussier small dogs. Meat gravy and vegetarian stock work on flavour

Worth watching

  • Fish oil on every list, so none is fish free
  • Poultry fat on the chicken, fish and turkey never names its bird
  • No glucosamine or chondroitin on any label, if joint support is what you came for
  • Cereal outweighs meat in each bag

  2. Lamb 57.9
  3. Chicken 56.0
  4. Fish 46.8

Four recipes across Good and Average. Typical dry food: Good.

Chicken, lamb and turkey sit close enough that the meat should decide it; cereal outweighing meat is what stops the range going higher.

The most straightforward bag here for a small dog kept away from birds.

Each bag opens with a dried meat at around a quarter of the recipe, then a run of rice, oats and barley, so cereal fills more of each bag than meat. Sugar beet pulp, alfalfa and tomato pomace handle fibre, chicory extract adds inulin, and seaweed covers iodine. Fish oil is on all four lists.

Chicken, fish and turkey share one pattern with the meat swapped and poultry fat behind it. The lamb is written differently: lamb meal and white rice lead, and lamb fat with sunflower oil takes the place of poultry fat. No label prints glucosamine or chondroitin.
