Harringtons Just 6 Dry: Salmon review

62.8/100Good
DryAdult

A short-list kibble in the plainest sense, with all three recipes in our Good band. One named animal, two roots, peas and the mineral pack, with nothing unexplained tagging along. Since they share one plan, pick the animal your dog likes best.

Our view

Likely to suit

  • Owners who want a short list with nothing vague on it
  • Dogs better off without cereal: the starch is dried potato and sweet potato
  • Rotating recipes, since only the animal changes
  • Dogs kept off land meats, who can have the salmon

Worth watching

  • Fish in all three, as the chicken and lamb carry salmon oil
  • Carbohydrate at 51.6% to 53.7% of dry matter, above the 46.2% usual for adult dry food

The score, in context
  1. Chicken 63.6
  2. Lamb 63.0
  3. Salmon 62.8

All three Good. Typical dry food: Good.

The short list and the size of the declared meat block do the work, and a starch load above the category norm holds all three back.

The obvious choice for a dog who has to stay off land meats altogether.

Every recipe gives 50.5% to the meat block and prints the fresh and dried shares inside it. The dried share, close to a quarter of the recipe, is what survives into the kibble. Dried potato and sweet potato bind it, with peas behind, and there is no wheat, maize or rice.

Salmon oil is in all three at 2% to 3%. Protein runs from 23.9% to 26.1% of dry matter and carbohydrate from 51.6% to 53.7%. The mineral pack, vitamin E at 500 mg and the tocopherol preservative are the same throughout.
