Forthglade Complete Meal with Brown Rice Adult: Lamb review

77/100Excellent
WetAdult

The brand's everyday adult tray, built about as plainly as a complete wet meal can be. Chicken, lamb and turkey sit in our Excellent band, with ocean fish a step below in Good. The label does most of the lifting, with a percentage against nearly every entry down to the yucca.

Our view

Likely to suit

  • Dogs kept to one animal. Chicken, lamb and turkey each name a single species and no other animal fat or oil
  • A dog that does better with a gentle grain, here only brown rice at 4%
  • Older dogs and heavier breeds feeling their joints
  • Owners who want trace elements dosed on the label
  • Dogs shy of the water bowl

Worth watching

  • Ocean Fish names no species, so it cannot carry an exclusion trial for one fish
  • Brown rice in all four, so none is grain free
  • Joint support at an everyday level. A diagnosed joint problem still needs what the vet has given

The score, in context
  1. Chicken 77.5
  2. Lamb 77.0

  4. Ocean Fish 62.2

Four recipes across Excellent and Good. Typical wet food: Excellent.

Three recipes match the best of everyday wet food, and Ocean Fish drops a step only because its fish is unnamed and lean.

Close to the chicken.

The richest tray here, and a single-animal option away from poultry.

Every label is 75% of one animal, then brown rice at 4%, carrots and peas at 2% each, minerals, linseed oil and a short row of extras with a percentage on nearly all of them. Linseed is the only added oil, so the chicken, lamb and turkey recipes hold no second animal at all.

Glucosamine and chondroitin at 50 mg/kg each, dried seaweed and a named herb blend run through all four, with the same chelated vitamin and mineral panel. Moisture is 72.0% across the range. What moves is the fat, and with it the carbohydrate estimate, which climbs on the leaner fish.
