Forthglade Cold Pressed Grain Free – Lamb with Sweet Potato

Forthglade

Forthglade Cold Pressed Grain Free: Lamb with Sweet Potato review

63.9/100Good
Cold pressedAdult

Five grain-free pressed recipes, all in our Good band, and the most candid labels on method we see. Forthglade marks which ingredients were thermally pre-treated before cold pressing, which almost no other maker does. The catch, on every recipe, is that sweet potato and peas outweigh the meat.

Our view

Likely to suit

  • Dogs off grain. The starch comes from sweet potato and peas
  • Older dogs and heavy breeds, with glucosamine and chondroitin printed at 300mg/kg
  • Rotating proteins across chicken, duck, lamb, salmon and turkey on one pattern
  • Buying ahead, with bags from 2kg up to 20kg on some recipes
  • Owners who want to know what was heated and what was not

Worth watching

  • Salmon oil on all five and egg powder on four, so no fish-free or egg-free bowl here
  • Poultry fat on the chicken and duck that does not name its bird
  • Only the turkey prints a calcium figure

The pick for a dog avoiding poultry and egg: its declared allergens stop at lamb and fish.

Five recipes on one blueprint. A named meat or fish takes just under a third of the bag, declared as freshly prepared plus dried ground with the total printed: 32.5% on four, 29.5% on the salmon. Dried sweet potato and peas carry the starch, and together they take more of the bowl than the meat.

Salmon oil, seaweed, chicory extract and a printed 300mg/kg each of glucosamine and chondroitin appear on every list. The fat source is what varies: unnamed poultry fat on the chicken and duck, chicken fat on the turkey, coconut and sunflower oil on the lamb. Each label marks which ingredients were heat-treated before the cold pressing.
