Bentley's Sensitive Salmon review

This food earns a place in our Good band, sitting level with the typical adult dry food. Value sits in Good and transparency reads Outstanding, with protein and processing and nutritional balance both at Average. The fish is genuine and clearly declared, and a starch-leaning analysis keeps it short of the bands above. For the sensitive dogs it is written for, that leaning reads as deliberate gentleness rather than a flaw.

Ingredients, as declared: Salmon & Trout 50% (including Freshly Prepared Salmon & Trout 36%, Dried Salmon 12% & Salmon Stock 2%), Sweet Potato (24%), Peas (9%), Potato, Beet Pulp, Linseed, Omega 3 Supplement, Minerals, Asparagus (0.3%), Fructooligosaccharides (FOS, 96 mg/ kg), Mannanoligosaccharides (MOS, 24 mg/kg)

Salmon and trout make up half the recipe, declared as 36% freshly prepared fish, 12% dried salmon and 2% salmon stock. That split matters. Fresh fish loses most of its listed weight in the oven, so the dried salmon entry quietly supplies a good share of the finished protein. That protein converts to 28.3% of dry matter.

The binding is sweet potato at 24% and peas at 9%, with plain potato behind them. No grain appears at all. Peas bring a little plant protein and useful fibre along with their starch, and carbohydrate overall is estimated at 44.5% as fed, so the plant side is pulling a solid shift.

The sensitive-stomach thinking is clearest in the small print. Beet pulp supplies gentle soluble fibre, and the two prebiotics, FOS at 96 mg/kg and MOS at 24 mg/kg, are there to feed the gut's friendly bacteria rather than the dog. Asparagus at 0.3% is a flourish, not a workhorse.

Linseed adds plant omega 3s alongside the label's omega 3 supplement, a pairing aimed squarely at skin and coat. The label is clear everywhere else, but that supplement never names its source.

Zinc at 50 mg, iron at 50 mg, manganese at 35 mg and iodine at 1 mg per kilo are all printed on the panel. Calcium converts to 1.52% of dry matter, a comfortable adult level that keeps the recipe workable across breed sizes.

For a 15kg adult dog in moderate condition, the standard maintenance estimate (110 × bodyweight^0.75, about 840 kcal a day) points to roughly 234 grams and £1.09 a day. The label's own guide asks 145 to 245 grams for dogs between 10kg and 20kg, so settle any difference by watching the waistline.
