Our picks of dog towels

6 picks, updated 17 September 2026

A dog towel is the quickest way to dry a dog that stands still, and the surest way to reach paws, ears and bellies. These six are the ones we would keep by the door.

What separates them is size and weight. A heavier microfibre holds more water, and a towel big enough to wrap gets a soaked dog dry in one go. Pick the size against your dog and the rest follows.

Our picks

  1. 1Lucky Paws Extra Large Microfibre Dog Towel, 140x70cm

    Lucky Paws

Extra Large Microfibre Dog Towel, 140x70cm

    Why we picked it

The weight of the microfibre is what separates a good dog towel from a thin one, and 400gsm is properly thick. Lucky Paws say it holds nearly three litres and sheds hair rather than collecting it. Dense whipstitching round the edges keeps it in shape through repeated washes. It comes from a small family business in Cheshire.

  2. 2Elite Paws Ultra-Absorbent Dog Towel, 140x70cm

    Elite Paws

    Ultra-Absorbent Dog Towel, 140x70cm

    Why we picked it

At 140 by 70 centimetres this wraps right round a big dog, and Elite Paws build it from coral fleece microfibre with a 600gsm pile. The maker lists a smooth surface that resists twigs and mud, so it stays pleasant to handle. It machine washes and is tumble dry safe, which suits a household with a big dog and a wet winter.

  3. 3PAWPUP Microfibre Dog Towels, 100x60cm, two pack

    PAWPUP

Microfibre Dog Towels, 100x60cm, two pack

    Why we picked it

Two towels in a pack is the right answer for a muddy season, because one can dry while the other works. Each is 100 by 60 centimetres, a good match for a spaniel or a cockapoo, in brown and grey. A black ribbon loop lets you hang each one up, and both go in the machine.

  4. 4PETTOM Microfibre Towels with Hand Pockets, 90x50cm, two pack

    PETTOM

Microfibre Towels with Hand Pockets, 90x50cm, two pack

    Why we picked it

The pockets are the idea. You slide a hand into each end and dry the dog like a pair of mitts, which reaches legs, paws and bellies easily. There are two in the pack, one green and one grey, in 400gsm microfibre with a lanyard for hanging. At 90 by 50 centimetres they suit a small or medium dog.

    Why we picked it

These are the pocketed towels in the size a big dog needs. Hands go into the pockets at each end, so you can work down the legs and under the belly. At 130 by 75 centimetres there is plenty of towel to wrap a large dog. Two come in the pack, in 400gsm microfibre, each with a hanging loop.

  6. 6DotDotPet Eco Towels Combo Pack, large and mini

    DotDotPet

Eco Towels Combo Pack, large and mini

    Why we picked it

Some drying jobs are easier with a towel you can simply throw away. This combo pairs large towels for a whole wet dog with minis for paws, faces and ears. They suit a day out or a holiday let, with nothing to take home and wash. DotDotPet say they are plastic free, made from FSC certified plant fibre and designed to break down after use.

Questions people ask

What does gsm mean on a dog towel?

Grams per square metre, which is a measure of how dense the fabric is. On microfibre dog towels, around 400gsm is thick and absorbent, and 600gsm is thicker still, holding plenty of water before it needs wringing out.

Are pocket towels better than ordinary dog towels?

Both earn a place. Pocket towels put your hands inside the fabric, which makes short work of legs and paws, and a big flat towel wraps a whole soaked dog in one movement. Plenty of owners keep one of each.

How many dog towels do I need?

Two is the useful number. One takes the worst of the water and the other finishes the job, and in a wet week there is always a dry one waiting.
