In detail
Tribal: the closer look
The range
Fourteen products across five ranges. Ten are cold-pressed, in Fresh Pressed Adult, Small Breed Adult, Fresh Pressed Senior/Light and Fresh Pressed Puppy. The other four are the 80% Gourmet Sausage wet meals. Adult, puppy and senior labels all appear, and three products are flagged for small breeds.
Ingredients
Turkey and chicken lead, with duck, salmon and lamb behind them. Every recipe is grain free. Glucosamine and chondroitin sit on the cold-pressed ranges for joints, alongside prebiotic and salmon oil, and the wet sausages list linseed.
Nutrition
The wet sausages are light, around 11.3% to 12.3% protein as fed and 123 to 150 kcal per 100g. The cold-pressed recipes run from 19.4% to 25% protein and 338 to 394 kcal per 100g. Nutritional balance reads Outstanding on the sausages and Average on most of the cold-pressed.
Strengths
- Outstanding transparency on all fourteen recipes
- Grain free across the whole range
- Joint support on eight products
Limitations
- Nutritional balance reads Average on much cold-pressed
- No kibble or raw food here
- Turkey and chicken cover most recipes
Where it is less of a fit
- If your dog is on raw or kibble, check the formats, as Tribal runs cold-pressed and wet
- If nutritional balance leads your choice, check the cold-pressed recipes, which read Average on eight and Poor on two
- If you want a wide protein choice, check the labels, since turkey and chicken cover most of the range
Score overview
Transparency is Outstanding on all fourteen recipes and value reads Good or better throughout, and together they carry the Excellent band. The four wet sausages read Outstanding as products. The cold-pressed ranges mostly read Good, held there by nutritional balance at Average, with two recipes at Poor.
The average score is the mean of each product's overall score out of 100 (using the best-scoring variety per product), not a flat average across every variety.
