In detail

Clinivet: the closer look

The range

Ten products, all of them dry. Each one is its own range. Adult Small, Adult Large, Adult Light, Adult Energy, Adult Junior and Adult Senior cover the grown dogs, with Puppy and Large Breed Puppy alongside. Two grain-free recipes finish the list, one chicken and one for sensitive stomachs. Eight of the labels are adult. Puppy appears on four and senior on one.

Ingredients

Two recipes name their lead protein, chicken on one grain-free food and fish on the sensitive stomach recipe. Glucosamine and chondroitin run through the nine joint-support labels, with linseed, salmon oil and yucca on most of the list. Prebiotics go into several recipes, and one carries msm.

Nutrition

Protein as fed runs from 18.0% on Adult Light up to 30.0% on the puppy food, with fat from 5.0% to 20.0% and energy between 337 and 384 kcal per 100g. Nutritional balance reads Good on four products and Average on five, and protein and processing is Average on seven.

Strengths

  • Joint support on nine of ten labels
  • Transparency reads Excellent or better on seven
  • Puppy and large breed puppy recipes

Limitations

  • Protein and processing reads Average on seven
  • Dry throughout, with nothing wet or raw
  • Most labels do not name a lead protein

Where it is less of a fit

  • If dry will not do for your dog, check the formats here: all ten products are dry
  • If you want the lead protein named on the pack, check the labels, as two recipes name one
  • If protein and processing is your first test, check that pillar, since seven products read Average

Score overview

Transparency is what lifts the Good band read, Outstanding on three products and Excellent on four. Value tracks the overall band and reads Good or better on five. Protein and processing is the soft spot, Average on seven products. Poor comes up on two. Grain Free Chicken is the one product reading Excellent, and the light, large, small, junior and senior recipes read Average.

The average score is the mean of each product's overall score out of 100 (using the best-scoring variety per product), not a flat average across every variety.
