This pack comes out in our Excellent band, level with the middle of the adult wet shelf and not clear of it. The analysis does not explain that on its own. Protein converts to 41.0% of dry matter and fat to 30.2%, and the estimated carbohydrate at 18.5% is only a little above the 15.8% typical of the category. The weight falls on one word: poultry stands for any domestic fowl, which leaves the largest ingredient in the recipe unidentified, and a scoring system can only reward what a label is willing to specify. Nutritional balance reads Outstanding, transparency and protein and processing each Excellent, so the analysis is doing more than the ingredient list is willing to say.

All three recipes are assembled the same way. Poultry at 56% comes as meat, stomach and skin, broth at 30.6% gets its own line on the list, and a named partner animal takes 10%. Sandy Path takes chicken, Muddy Routes takes pork and Stony Creek takes beef.

Poultry is the entry that decides how much of this recipe you can actually read. It covers any domestic fowl and lets the mix move between batches, which is common practice and no reflection on the material used. For most older dogs it is unimportant. For a dog whose intolerances you are still narrowing down, it is the whole question.

Pork is the interesting partner of the three. You do not see it often in dog food, so it will be new to many dogs, and it is highly palatable. That matters when an older appetite has gone quiet. Beef and chicken cover the more familiar ground.

The senior touch is green-lipped mussel extract at 0.1%, alongside wild berries at 2%, wild herbs at 0.2% and inulin at 0.1% as a prebiotic. Mussel extract is prized for its omega-3 profile, and an older dog's dinner is a good place for it. At this inclusion it is a helping hand, not a treatment.

Nothing on the added panel is left as a bare name. Vitamin D3 is at 280 IU and vitamin E at 35 IU per kilo. Biotin comes at 21 micrograms, zinc at 21 mg, copper at 1.8 mg, iodine at 1.4 mg and manganese at 0.8 mg. Calcium reads 2.37% of dry matter, which is generous for a senior recipe and worth counting if other supplements are already in play.

A 15kg adult dog in moderate condition needs roughly 840 kcal a day (110 × bodyweight^0.75, the usual maintenance estimate), and at 110 kcal per 100g that comes to about 764 grams.

The label sets out a full table by weight, from 70 grams a day at 1kg to 1885 grams at 80kg. In the middle of it sit 395 grams at 10kg and 665 grams at 20kg.
