Terra Canis Senior Wet Food – Turkey with papaya, broccoli and medicinal herbs

Terra Canis

Terra Canis Senior Wet Food: Turkey with papaya, broccoli and medicinal herbs review

76.6/100Excellent
WetAdultSenior

Four senior cans, all in our Excellent band, built on heart, liver, lung and stomach with every organ given its own percentage. That is rare on a wet label and it is the reason this range holds up. The herbs on the front of the can are seasoning; the meat is why you buy it.

Our view

Likely to suit

  • An older dog whose appetite needs coaxing. Organ meat is about as palatable as a bowl gets
  • Households feeding adults and seniors together, as every can is listed for both
  • Owners who want to add up the animal content themselves
  • Dogs off grain: the starch is potato with a little coconut flour
  • Rotation between beef, venison, chicken and turkey on one house recipe
  • Poor drinkers. Three quarters or more of every can is moisture

Worth watching

  • Goat's milk in all four, so none is a single-animal can for an elimination diet
  • Glucosamine at a trace level, nowhere near a working dose for a dog under treatment
  • Energy varies a lot between cans, and the labels print no calories. Weigh the bowl again when you switch

The most protein for its dry weight, and the lightest bowl for a dog that needs to lose a little.

Every can writes its meat out organ by organ, with a percentage on each, so the animal content adds up on the label. Heart leads three of the four; the game can is venison muscle meat alone. Potato follows the meat on all four, with vegetables and fruit that change by recipe, and coconut flour binds the loaf.

Goat's milk at 2% or 3%, linseed oil, oyster shell, brewer's yeast and seaweed appear on every label, along with a herb list and glucosamine at or below 0.4%. Moisture runs from 77.7% to 84.3%, and protein from 42.2% to 62.4% of dry matter.
