Our Good band is the placing, shared with the typical cold-pressed food, and this one sits comfortably inside it. What gets it there is the animal side: duck at 30%, sea fish at 6.5% and green tripe at 5.5% add up to a meat share most pressed foods do not print. Every one of those animals is named. Protein converts to 30.3% of dry matter as a result, a good figure for the format. The full vitamin and mineral panel is printed dose by dose, with a Good reading on transparency to match. It cannot climb higher because of the starch load behind the meat, with potato and sweet potato pushing carbohydrate to 48.2% of dry matter.

Ingredients, as declared: Dried Ground Duck (30%), Potato (23%), Sweet Potato (7%), Dried Ground Sea Fish (6.5%), Green Tripe (5.5%), Linseed, Mixture of Cold Pressed Vegetable Oils (evening primrose, linseed and rapeseed), Seaweed, Pumpkin, Mixture of Dried Herbs (Green Tea, Parsley and Rosemary), Fruit and Vegetables (Alfalfa, Apples, Chicory and Carrots), Yucca Schidigera (dried), Pre Biotic (FOS, MOS), Dried Green Lipped Mussels.

Duck at 30% leads, and it is dried and ground before pressing. That makes the figure count for more meat than a fresh-meat label showing the same 30% would. Duck is well liked and digests easily, and it sits outside the two proteins most dogs have eaten their fill of. That makes it a sensible pick for a food aimed at dogs that have reacted to chicken.

The two supporting animals are the interesting part. Dried ground sea fish at 6.5% brings marine omega 3 to a recipe that would otherwise rely on seed oils for it. Green tripe at 5.5% is a ruminant's stomach lining, left unbleached and unprocessed. Tripe is rich stuff, full of natural digestive enzymes and friendly bacteria, and it is famously good at getting a reluctant dog to finish the bowl.

Potato at 23% and sweet potato at 7% replace the cereal a pressed food normally leans on, which is what makes this one grain-free. Carbohydrate still converts to 48.2% of dry matter, a little above the 43.2% category middle, so the recipe is meat-led at the front and starch-supported behind. Fat sits at a moderate 10.8% of dry matter, easy to feed to a dog that gains weight without effort.

The oil blend is unusual and rather thoughtful. Evening primrose oil is a source of gamma linolenic acid, an omega 6 fat that matters for skin condition, and it appears alongside linseed and rapeseed, all of them cold pressed to suit the format. Linseed also appears as a whole ingredient further up the list, where it adds fibre as well as fat.

The tail carries the extras: seaweed for iodine, pumpkin, a dried herb mixture of green tea, parsley and rosemary, and a grouped fruit and vegetable entry of alfalfa, apple, chicory and carrot. Yucca schidigera follows, then the FOS and MOS prebiotic pair, and dried green lipped mussels at the very end for the joints. None carries a percentage, so they are finishing touches rather than pillars of the recipe. Calcium converts to 1.51% of dry matter, a level that suits puppies of any size as well as adults.

Working from the standard maintenance estimate (110 × bodyweight^0.75), a 15kg adult dog in moderate condition needs roughly 840 kcal a day, which this food covers in about 248 grams, or £1.46 a day.
