Fidelis
Fidelis Fresh Menu (grain free recipes): Beef with Sweet potato, Apple and Broccoli review
Flavour
Gently cooked dinners in 400g jars, six recipes, all in our Outstanding band. Most open on 60% fresh muscle meat with 10% offal on its own line, and the plant side is fresh vegetables and fruit rather than starch. The Beef is the one to pick for a wheat-sensitive dog: it is the only recipe without wheat germ oil.
Our view
Likely to suit
- Anyone who wants to know what went into the jar; the labels go down to a tenth of a percent
- A fresh, gently cooked bowl without weighing out ingredients yourself
- Fussy eaters, because gentle cooking keeps more of the meat's smell and texture than high-heat processing
- A house with dogs of different ages: every recipe is listed from puppy to old age
- Dogs that do better on less starch
- A sensitivity to work around, with six recipes to move between, from beef and pork to salmon and three birds
Worth watching
- Wheat germ oil is on every recipe except the Beef, and the Salmon carries beef liver powder
- No label prints a calcium figure, so a large-breed puppy owner would need to ask Fidelis
- Jars live in the fridge once opened and the portions are big by weight, so clear a shelf

- Duck 92.8
- Pork 91.9

All six Outstanding. Typical fresh food: Outstanding.
The Salmon and the Beef share the lead, but the gap is small enough that your dog's protein history should decide.
What's in it
- Fresh beef muscle meat60%Goes in raw and is cooked through, never extruded or dried afterwards, so this is 60% of a wet food.
- Fresh beef offal10%On its own line, which almost nobody does. Organ meat carries the vitamins and minerals muscle runs short of.

- Brewer's yeast2%B vitamins and a full set of amino acids.
- Algae oil1.5%The omega 3 source, grown, not fished. No rendered animal fat on the label.
- Sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds1% eachFor their oils.
- Algae powder, seaweed powder0.7%, 0.3%Minerals and iodine.
- Rosehip shells0.4%
- Rosemary0.3%Flavour, and a natural antioxidant that slows the fat turning.
Added per 100 g: vitamin D 35 IU, manganese 0.2 mg, copper 0.2 mg, selenium 12.5 µg, zinc 3.5 mg. A short panel; the recipe leans on fresh ingredients for the rest.
Not on this label, and on the other five in the range: wheat germ oil. For a wheat-sensitive dog that is the reason to pick the Beef.
No calcium figure printed. A large-breed puppy owner would need to ask Fidelis for it.

Five of the six recipes open on 60% fresh muscle meat with 10% offal behind it; the Salmon builds its share from salmon and salmon carcasses instead. Estimated carbohydrate runs from 12.0% of dry matter on the Salmon to 29.4% on the Chicken. The fat comes from oils on every label. Algae oil is on four of the six at 1.5% to 2%, with hemp seed oil on the Pork and salmon oil on the Salmon at 1.5%. Wheat germ oil is on all but the Beef at 1% to 1.5%.
Vitamin D is 100 IU on the Duck against 35 IU on most of the others, with a slightly lighter set again on the Salmon.

Fresh food is mostly water by weight, so the daily amount looks large next to a dry food.
At the premium end for a gently cooked fresh food. For what is in the recipe, that reads as strong value.
