Europa 80/20 Grain Free review

75.3/100Excellent
DryPuppyAdult

The brand's meat-heaviest shelf, and all three recipes land in our Excellent band. Each declares 80% of the bag as named animals, so protein runs at 38% and starch stays low. The real choice between them is the animals: all fish, no fish, or poultry with some fish.

Our view

Likely to suit

  • Working and sporting dogs, with as much as 406 kcal in every 100g
  • Dogs kept low on starch: estimated carbohydrate stops between 26.6% and 29.9% of dry matter
  • A pup, a grown dog and an old one fed from a single bag
  • Joints to look after, with glucosamine, MSM and chondroitin dosed in print
  • One fish-fed dog and one that eats red meat in the same house

Worth watching

  • None is built on a single species, so none suits an elimination trial
  • Dense recipes, and portions need watching for a dog whose exercise is a lap of the park
  • Calcium on the poultry and fish reads 1.63% of dry matter, too high for a large-breed puppy

Against the range
Animals
Fish only: salmon, herring, haddock, trout
Land and Air has no fish; the poultry and fish mixes both.
Energy
406 kcal per 100g
Densest of the three; the poultry and fish is 382.
Carbohydrate, dry matter
27.1%
26.6% to 29.9% across the three.

The obvious one for a dog that stays off land meats altogether.

Each label declares 80% named animals, itemised species by species with a percentage against each, and an 18% vegetable medley led by sweet potato. Fresh meat tops every list, so the dried entries behind it do more work than their smaller figures suggest. Protein converts to 41.3% of dry matter on all three.

The joint pack, the two prebiotics and the long botanical tail are the same on every recipe. What varies is the animals, the fat (15.5% on the poultry and fish, 19% on the others) and the mineral panel, where zinc, iodine and selenium differ.
