The Good band is where this one settles, right around the middle of the puppy dry field rather than above or below it. Nutritional balance is the pillar reading Average, and the reason sits in plain view on the label: an unquantified corn entry second in the list and a starch heavy analysis behind it. Transparency reads Outstanding, helped by a small print that gives a figure to almost everything in it, from the joint pair down to the kelp, with protein and processing and value both Good alongside.

That is the honest shape of the food. It is not trying to be the meatiest bag on the shelf, and it does not pretend to be. It is a straightforward cereal based growth kibble with a joint package a big breed puppy will genuinely use.

Ingredients, as declared: chicken protein 36 %, corn, oats 16 %, poultry fat 6 %, dried apple pulp 3 %, brewer's yeast, hydrolysed chicken liver 2 %, salmon oil 2 %, carrots 1 %, peas 1 %, dried parsley 0.5 %, dried kelp 0.4 % (Ascophyllum nodosum), glucosamine (280 mg/kg), chondroitine sulphate (180 mg/kg), mannan-oligosaccharides (160 mg/kg), fructo-oligosaccharides (100 mg/kg), Mojave yucca (100 mg/kg), β-glucans (50 mg/kg).

Chicken protein at 36% is dried, and a dried meat carries most of its declared weight into the kibble. No other animal is given a name anywhere on the list. Protein converts to 28.6% of dry matter, a moderate reading, and that is deliberate. Large breed growth is one of the few places where a merely adequate protein and energy level is preferable to a generous one.

The cereal side does most of the bulking. Corn comes second with no figure against it and oats follow at 16%, and the estimated carbohydrate lands at 43.6% of dry matter where the typical puppy dry food runs at 39.0%. Oats are a decent grain for a dog, slow releasing and gentle, but corn without a percentage means the true cereal share stays behind the curtain.

The joint pairing is the reason to look twice at this bag. Glucosamine at 280 mg/kg and chondroitin sulphate at 180 mg/kg are declared amounts rather than name checks, and a large breed puppy carrying a fast growing skeleton is precisely the dog they are aimed at. Mannan-oligosaccharides at 160 mg/kg, fructo-oligosaccharides at 100 mg/kg and beta glucans at 50 mg/kg cover the gut side, with Mojave yucca at 100 mg/kg for the litter tray end of things.

Calcium converts to 1.65% of dry matter and ash to 8.2%. For a food sold specifically for large breed growth, that calcium figure is the one to raise. A big pup's skeleton is more sensitive to an oversupply than a small pup's, and the usual large breed target sits lower than this. None of that makes the bag unusable; it makes the feeding plan matter, and a vet who knows your pup's expected adult weight can set that in a minute.

The trimmings are modest but real. Carrots and peas come in at 1% each, with dried kelp at 0.4% and dried parsley at 0.5% adding trace minerals and a little colour. Brewer's yeast brings B vitamins. Hydrolysed chicken liver at 2% gives a fairly plain recipe a taste worth finishing.

Two entries keep this from being a single animal food. The poultry fat at 6% names no bird, and fish enters through salmon oil at 2%, the omega 3 source. Both are ordinary inclusions and neither will bother most dogs, but an owner running a strict exclusion diet needs to count them.

The label's own chart tops out at 410 grams a day for the biggest pups in growth. Big breeds grow for far longer than small ones, so the ration keeps moving for months on end. The aim through all of it is steady growth on a lean frame, not the fastest possible gain.
