This pouch finishes in our Excellent band, and the middle of the puppy wet field reaches that band too, so it is keeping company with a strong crowd. It still edges past that middle mark, with protein and processing reading Good and nutritional balance and transparency both Outstanding.

What earns the position is arithmetic more than anything clever. A 70% meat share, a starch entry small enough to be almost incidental, and a calcium figure printed where a great many wet labels stay silent.

Ingredients, as declared: beef 70 %, brown rice 4 %, minerals, dried brewer´s yeast 0.2 %, linseed oil 0.2 %, powdered beetroot juice, Mojave yucca 0.02 %.

Beef at 70% is effectively the whole recipe, and the declared analysis agrees with it. Protein converts to 47.5% of dry matter and fat to 32.5%, while carbohydrate estimates at 5.5% of dry matter where the typical puppy wet food runs at 13.6%. Very little in this pouch is doing anything other than feeding a growing dog.

Beef is a rich, highly digestible red meat, and here it is also the only animal on the list. The oil is linseed and the yeast is dried brewer's yeast, neither of them animal. A pup on a strict one-protein plan can use this pouch without a footnote attached.

Brown rice at 4% is the sole cereal and the sole real source of starch, a light carrier and nothing more. It does put grain in the bowl, which a grain free household should know going in, but the share is far too small for the meat headline to be resting on it.

Linseed oil at 0.2% supplies plant-sourced omega 3, not quite the equal of a marine oil but genuinely useful for skin and coat while a pup is growing into its adult coat. The dried brewer's yeast, at that same 0.2%, brings B vitamins with it, and Mojave yucca at 0.02% is a traditional inclusion for stool odour.

The mineral side is properly declared. Ash converts to 10.0% of dry matter and calcium to 1.5%, which is the single most important line in any growth food and the one wet labels most often omit. Vitamin D3 at 225 IU per kilo supports the way that calcium gets used, with vitamin E at 40 mg and a small panel of zinc, manganese, copper and iodine behind it.

There is no one daily amount that fits a growing dog. The requirement climbs through the fast weeks and then settles as the adult frame arrives, so feed to the growth chart and to the shape of the pup in front of you. As a sense of scale, our energy estimate has a 10kg pup between four and twelve months old working through roughly 747 to 914 grams a day. Wet food always feeds in bigger volumes than kibble.
