Buddy Salmon Light/Senior review

This one settles in our Good band, the same band the typical adult dry food occupies, though it sits above that middle. A clearly named fish with its dried share leading, restrained fat and a fully dosed additive panel make the difference.

Ingredients, as declared: dried salmon protein (35%), peas, wild-caught salmon (15%), sweet potato, chicken fat (preserved with tocopherols), dried apples, hydrolysed chicken liver (2%), salmon oil, carrots, dried kelp (ascophyllum nodosum), glucosamine (0.026%), chondroitin sulphate (0.016%), mannan-oligosaccharides (0.015%), fructo-oligosaccharides (0.012%), Mojave yucca (0.01%), citrusextrakt (0.005%), curcumaextrakt (0.005%) och rosemarinextrakt (0.005%). Dried salmon protein opens the list at 35%, and that ordering is worth more than it looks: pre-dried protein arrives with its water already gone, so the declared figure survives cooking intact. Wild-caught salmon at 15% adds the fresh element. Protein lands at 28.9% of dry matter while fat is held to 13.3%, the trim that justifies the light label.

The starch is carried by peas and sweet potato, with grain missing from the list entirely. The carbohydrate estimate converts to 46.2% of dry matter, exactly the typical figure for an adult dry food.

Digestion gets the full toolkit: mannan-oligosaccharides at 0.015%, fructo-oligosaccharides at 0.012%, dried kelp and a little Mojave yucca, each with its inclusion declared.

Glucosamine at 0.026% and chondroitin sulphate at 0.016% cover the joint side of the senior brief, with salmon oil topping up the marine omegas the fish already brings.

The honest footnote is the poultry: chicken fat for energy and hydrolysed chicken liver at 2% for appeal. Neither troubles most dogs, but a bird-free household should know they are there, and the trailing citrus, turmeric and rosemary extracts are flourish rather than function.
