Briantos Adult Light/Sterilised Grain-Free: Turkey & Potato review

This is the rare Briantos recipe to reach our Good band, drawing level with the typical adult dry food rather than trailing it. A meaningful turkey declaration, dosed slimming extras and a genuinely low fat figure pull it up, while unnamed poultry entries and a starch-heavy midsection stop it climbing further.

Ingredients, as declared: 25% turkey protein (dried), 22% potatoes (dried), potato starch (dried), cellulose, 5% sweet potatoes (dried), beet pulp (desugared), poultry fat, Poultry protein (dried), protein hydrolysate, peas (dried), monocalcium phosphate, fish oil, chicory (dried), yeast (dried), psyllium, sodium chloride, celery (dried), carrots (dried)

Dried turkey protein at 25% is a solid opening for a diet food. Dried protein is concentrated, turkey is a naturally lean meat, and the arithmetic works out well: protein holds at 26.8% of dry matter while fat sits at just 9.1%.

Potatoes at 22%, potato starch and 5% sweet potato replace the grains. Estimated carbohydrate comes to 49.4% of dry matter, a little above the 46.2% typical for adult dry food. That is the usual trade in a light recipe where fat has been cut back.

The fibre package is the most carefully assembled part of the label. Declared fibre reaches 5.5%, or 6.7% of dry matter. Cellulose provides bulk, desugared beet pulp a gentle fermentable fibre and psyllium the soluble kind. Together they aim to keep a dieting dog full and regular at the same time.

The additive rack reads like a checklist for the sterilised dog. L-carnitine at 90mg helps the body draw on fat, taurine at 200mg has the heart in mind, DL-methionine sits at 500mg, and vitamin E is stepped up to 400 IU. Every one of those doses is printed, with chelated zinc in the mineral line.

Two honesty notes to finish. Dried poultry protein and poultry fat sit behind the turkey, named at family level, and protein hydrolysate is there as a palatant. Moisture is declared at 18%, higher than most kibble, so lean on the dry-matter figures when comparing.
