Bounce and Bella Luxury Grain-Free Adult: Scottish Salmon review

All four varieties read Excellent, a band clear of the Good the typical adult dry food manages. One band covers the lot, so let your dog's protein history pick the flavour and leave the scores out of it.

Ingredients, as declared: 65% Salmon (35% Freshly Prepared Scottish Salmon, 23% Dried Salmon, 4% Salmon Oil & 3% Salmon Stock), Sweet Potato, Beans, Beet Pulp, Dried Superfood Blend* (Including Dill, Spinach, Fennel, Asparagus, Tomato), Omega 3 Supplement, Minerals, Fructooligosaccharides (FOS, 192 mg/kg), Mannanoligosaccharides (MOS, 48 mg/kg), Olive Extract (0.01%)

The 65% headline is built honestly in every flavour, with the split printed on the label. The beef, for example, declares 35% freshly prepared beef, 25% dried beef and 5% beef fat, and the other flavours follow the same pattern, each with its own fat plus a gravy or a stock. That dried share is the one to watch. Fresh meat comes out of the oven far lighter than it went in. That leaves the dried share to supply much of the protein. The analysis bears it out: protein converts to between 29.9% and 41.3% of dry matter across the range.

The binding is sweet potato with beans, and beet pulp adds gentle fibre. Estimated carbohydrate sits between 29.9% and 37.5% of dry matter, comfortably under the 46.2% typical for adult dry food. None of the four contains grain.

The prebiotic pair is dosed in print rather than sprinkled for show, with FOS at 192 mg/kg and MOS at 48 mg/kg in every flavour. Each recipe also carries its own dried superfood blend, a handful of fruits and vegetables with herbs, changing with the flavour. These sit at trace level and are seasoning rather than substance, which is fine, because the meat is doing the real work.

One entry deserves a straight answer: every flavour includes an omega 3 supplement whose source the label never names. For most dogs that is a non-issue, but if you are running a genuine single-animal elimination plan, an unnamed omega source is a loose end worth tying up with the manufacturer first.

The beef flavour goes further than the others on supplements. It carries glucosamine and MSM at 170 mg/kg each and chondroitin sulphate at 125 mg/kg, all printed with their doses. Olive extract at 0.01% closes out every list as a small antioxidant flourish.

Scottish salmon at 35% fresh and 23% dried, with 4% salmon oil and 3% salmon stock keeping the whole animal share fish. Like the rest of the family it reads Outstanding on transparency, with its other three pillars all at Good.

Per kilo, the chicken is £5.60, the salmon £5.67 and the beef and lamb £5.73 each. The beef and lamb come in 2kg, 6kg and 15kg bags, the chicken adds a 12kg option, and the salmon is sold in 6kg and 15kg.

Feeding a 15kg adult dog in moderate condition works out at between £1.26 and £1.33 a day on our standard maintenance energy estimate, at roughly 220 to 233 grams a day depending on the flavour.
