Ava Breed Health Cockapoo Dry review

66/100Good
DryAdult

A grain-free chicken recipe for Cockapoos, in our Good band in both its adult and puppy editions. The thing that marks it out is a calming quartet of valerian, skullcap, chamomile and dandelion root, aimed at the breed's lively temperament. Chicken supplies 41.4% of the bowl.

Our view

Likely to suit

  • Cockapoos of every mix: the adult guide runs from 2kg up to 17kg
  • Excitable dogs, with valerian, skullcap and chamomile in for their calming reputation
  • Dogs that do badly on grain. Potato and sweet potato carry all the starch
  • A home with a puppy and an adult, both fed from one construction

Worth watching

  • Chicken, egg and salmon oil in both, so neither fits a chicken-free or single-protein plan
  • No calcium figure on the puppy label, which makes it safer for smaller, slower-growing pups
  • Pea protein topping up the protein total from the plant side

The score, in context
  1. Ava Breed Health Cockapoo Dry 66.0
  2. Puppy 65.6

All two Good. Typical dry food: Good.

The two sit side by side; the puppy edition matches the adult despite stricter growth standards, though its missing calcium figure is the gap a puppy buyer feels most.

What's in it
  • Chicken: chicken meal, chicken41.4%20.5% meal and 18.8% fresh. Meal goes in with its water already out, so it beats fresh on protein gram for gram.

  • Beet pulp6.2%The fibre.
  • Chicken fat5.5%
  • Peas, pea proteinPea protein is the economical way to lift a protein figure from the plant side.
  • Salmon oil, brewers yeast, eggEgg and fish join the chicken here.

Feeding guide
2kg to 17kg adults
The puppy chart starts at 3.5kg.

The original recipe, and the slightly stronger scorer of the pair.

Both editions share one construction: chicken at 41.4%, split between meal and fresh, on a potato and sweet potato base with no grain. Peas and pea protein add plant protein, and salmon oil and egg sit behind the chicken. Glucosamine, chondroitin and a calming herb set appear on both labels.

The trace minerals are chelated and dosed on both. What changes is taurine, L-carnitine and the feeding chart, and the puppy label gives no calcium or moisture figure.
