Arden Grange Adult: With Fresh Chicken & Rice review

The range holds one line across our scale, with all four settling in our Good band, the same band as the typical adult dry food. The differences between them are small, mostly carbohydrate share and mineral detail, so a flavour your dog loves is a better tiebreak than the band.

Ingredients, as declared: Chicken (chicken meat meal 27%, fresh chicken 5%), rice (26%), maize, refined chicken oil, beet pulp, chicken digest, whole dried egg, krill, yeast, whole linseed, minerals, prebiotic FOS, prebiotic MOS, yucca extract, glucosamine, MSM, chondroitin, cranberries, nucleotides.

Every variety follows the same drawing: a named animal first, rice at 26 to 28% beside it, and a second starch behind that. Three of the recipes use corn or maize, and the pork uses sweet potato. Protein finishes at 25% across the board, or 27.2% of dry matter, with estimated carbohydrate ranging from 42.4% to 46.2% of dry matter. That top figure matches the typical adult dry food exactly, so read this as a moderate-meat, rice-forward construction rather than a meat-dense one.

The meat declarations reward a careful look. The pork, chicken and lamb lean on meat meal with a smaller fresh share, while the salmon variety pairs 26% fresh salmon with chicken meal in support. Meal is concentrated, already-dried protein, so it pulls real weight; it also means no variety is built on one animal alone.

Chicken oil and chicken digest feature throughout the range, the digest doing palatability work, and krill brings a marine omega 3 source with whole linseed adding the plant kind. Useful inclusions all, and worth knowing about for elimination purposes, because they quietly put chicken and fish into every bowl.

Beet pulp supplies steady fibre, prebiotic FOS and MOS look after the gut flora, and cranberries, yucca extract and nucleotides round out the tail at small inclusions. The glucosamine, MSM and chondroitin trio features in all four recipes, though this range leaves the doses unprinted.

Transparency varies a little by variety. The pork prints a fuller panel, with chelated zinc, copper, manganese and iodine dosed per kilo. The others declare vitamins A, D3 and E, then leave the rest to a general minerals entry.

Chicken meat meal at 27% with 5% fresh chicken and rice at 26%. The house classic, and the simplest starting point for a dog with no history against poultry.

All four varieties are sold in 2kg and 6kg bags, with a 4 x 2kg multipack across the range. Above that, the salmon, pork and lamb offer 14kg sacks with twin-pack options, the pork adds a 12kg, and the chicken tops out with a 12kg plus 2kg bundle or a 28kg double sack.

Daily amounts sit close together: our standard estimate has a 15kg adult in moderate condition eating 219 to 221 grams a day depending on variety, based on roughly 840 kcal of need (110 × bodyweight^0.75). The label's own band for a 10 to 15kg dog is 140 to 190 grams, so treat the two as a range and let condition decide.
