Almo Nature
Almo Nature Holistic Adult Small: Salmon review
Flavour
The brand's adult recipe shrunk to a little kibble and a 2kg bag for small mouths. One variety leads with chicken and the other with salmon, each with a second animal behind it. The salmon sits in our Good band and the chicken just under it in Average.

Our view
Likely to suit
- Small breed adults, with kibble and bag sized to match
- Dogs with a firm preference between chicken and salmon
- Prebiotic support in a small-breed food, from MOS and chicory inulin
- Toy dogs working through a bag slowly, as a 2kg bag stays fresher than a half-used sack
Worth watching
- Chicken in both recipes, so neither suits a dog avoiding it
- A second species behind the headline one, a poor fit for single-protein elimination feeding
- Corn and rice in both, for a grain-avoiding household

How this scores
How we scoreThe details
Dog fit
Sold for small adult dogs. If chicken is the problem, neither bag is the answer, as the salmon recipe carries dried chicken and chicken fat too.

The score, in context
- Salmon 54.7
- Almo Nature Holistic Adult Small 48.5
Two recipes across Good and Average. Typical dry food: Good.
Modest but honest: named animals with printed percentages and a dosed panel, without the meat density that would push either higher.
What's in it
- Fresh salmon26%Fronts the recipe, though mostly water before the oven.
- Corn, rice, brown rice flour
- Dried tuna10%
- Dried chicken, chicken fat9.5%Chicken in a fish recipe.
- Beet pulp, yeast, minerals
- Mannanoligosaccharides, chicory inulinMOS 0.1%Prebiotics.
- A source of phosphorus0.1%
- Yucca0.01%
Dosed top to bottom, with copper and zinc partly as chelates beside the standard salts, and L-carnitine at 100 mg/kg.
Dried chicken and chicken fat are on the list, so this is not a fish-only recipe.
Named ingredients
Against the range
- Lead animal
- Fresh salmon 26%
- Chicken 32.7% on the other.
- Other animals on the label
- Dried tuna 10%, dried chicken 9.5%
- Dried beef 6.7%.
- Protein, dry matter
- 29.7%
- 28.6% on the chicken.
The stronger of the pair, for a dog that enjoys fish but need not avoid everything else.
Both recipes follow one blueprint: a named animal first at a printed percentage, a second animal protein in support, then corn and rice to bind the kibble. Fresh meat and fish lose most of their water in the oven, so the dried entries carry more of the finished protein than their positions suggest. Beet pulp gives fibre, MOS and chicory inulin act as prebiotics, and yucca at 0.01% closes each list. Chicken, as meat or as fat, is in both.
