Raw Pet Foods Sensitive review

Turkey and tripe carry this mince into our Outstanding band, the same band the typical adult raw food occupies, and in the strongest format anything we score can sit in that is a genuine result. What earns it is the plainness: name the animals, percentage them, keep the plant share small and skip the premix. The two-animal build counts against it nowhere.

Turkey leads at 66%, a sensible pick for the job this recipe is doing. It is leaner than chicken and easy to digest. Because turkey turns up in fewer recipes overall, plenty of dogs meet it fresh, with no long history behind them.

Ox tripe at 20% is the second half of it. Green tripe goes into the mince uncleaned and unbleached. It arrives carrying the enzymes and live bacteria a working gut runs on. That is exactly why it has the reputation it does among raw feeders with a fussy dog on their hands. It is also beef, so the recipe brings two animals to the bowl.

The plant share is small and properly named: carrots at 7%, butternut at 3% and green leaf at 3%. Kelp and flaxseed take the last 1% between them, iodine and trace minerals from the one, plant omega 3 fats from the other. Supplementation on this label goes no further.

What is missing is worth as much attention as what is present. Liver and kidney, which the brand's other minces lean on heavily, do not appear here, so the concentrated vitamin and mineral load that organ meats usually bring is not part of the picture. On a food a dog might eat for years, that is a fair thing to raise with the maker.

The analysis reads properly meat-shaped: protein converting to 45.9% of dry matter, fat to 39.8% and carbohydrate to 0.1%, with ash at 10.4% pointing to ground bone in the mince. Energy is estimated at 182 kcal per 100g rather than declared.

A 15kg adult dog in moderate condition needs roughly 840 kcal a day on the standard maintenance sum (110 × bodyweight^0.75). That is about 462 grams of this mince, or £2.67 a day.
