Salmon at 44% arrives dry and finely ground, and that changes how the headline should be read. Because the water is gone before the ingredient is weighed, that share does not shrink in the oven; it is close to what actually ends up in the kibble.

Krill flour follows at a declared minimum of 4%. Krill is a tiny marine crustacean used whole, so it adds protein and marine oils rather than bulk, and it is the reason shellfish belongs on this label as well as fish.
