On our scale this comes out in the Average band, while the middle of the adult dry category reads Good. Protein and processing and nutritional balance both read Poor. The label explains it: two cereals ahead of the meat, total poultry at 11%, and estimated carbohydrate higher than a dry food usually carries. Transparency reads Good, which is the fairer half of the picture, earned by named percentages and printed doses. This is a food designed around a target nutrient profile and one specific job, keeping a big dog moving, and a general nutrition scale is not built to hand out marks for that brief.

Ingredients, as declared: Wheat, maize, chicken and turkey meal (chicken 7%; total poultry 11%), digest, animal fat, maize protein meal, flaxseed, fish oil (1.8%), vegetable oil, minerals, pea bran meal.

Wheat comes first and maize second, so the shape of this kibble is clear from the top of the label. In third place is chicken and turkey meal, 7% chicken inside 11% total poultry. Because a meal goes in already dried, little of that 11% is lost by the time the food is finished. It is a modest animal share by any reading of the label.

The mobility case is built on omega 3. Fish oil is declared at 1.8% and flaxseed sits just ahead of it, and marine omega 3s are what owners most often reach for when a dog's joints are the concern. There is no printed glucosamine or chondroitin dose, so what you are buying is a steady daily helping of fish oil inside a complete food. For plenty of big dogs that is the practical version of the same idea.

Digest sits unusually high, fourth on the list, with animal fat just behind it. Digest is the palatant that makes a lean kibble worth eating, and its placement suggests it is doing real work here. Neither entry names an animal, so the label cannot be read as poultry only, and with fish oil present the recipe rules itself out of a fish free trial as well.

The analysis is on the lean side throughout. Protein converts to 21.4% of dry matter and fat to 14.0%, both gentle for a dry food, while estimated carbohydrate reaches 57.2% against 46.2% for the typical adult dry food. Fibre is 2.6% of dry matter and pea bran meal at the foot of the list is what supplies it. Calcium comes out at 0.67% of dry matter, a normal adult figure.

The trace minerals each carry a figure: zinc at 136 mg per kilo, iron at 77.8 mg, copper at 7.7 mg, manganese at 8.1 mg, iodine at 1.9 mg and selenium at 0.2 mg. A natural antioxidant is named as the preservative. That kind of declaration is a settled habit of this brand and worth noticing on any label.

For portioning, the standard maintenance estimate of 110 kcal × bodyweight^0.75 puts a 15kg adult in moderate condition at about 233 grams a day, and a large dog scales up from there. The label's table runs to 800 grams a day for a dog of 80kg and over, so take the first week from the bag and let condition steer you afterwards.
