The band here is our Good band, the same one the middle of the puppy kibble field settles in, if a shade under that middle. Transparency reads Outstanding, protein and processing Average, and nutritional balance and value each land on Good. That is a fair summary of a label that does several things properly and one thing conservatively.

The properly done parts are easy to point at: a single named meat, a printed calcium figure that lands where a big pup needs it, and a joint pack with real numbers on it. The conservative part is how much of the bag is rice, maize and barley, and that is what holds the position where it is.

Ingredients, as declared: White Rice (30%), Chicken Meat Meal (20%), Maize, Dried Maize Protein (15%), Barley, Dried Brewer's Yeast, Chicken Fat (5%), Flaxseed Oil (1.5%), Chicken Digest (1%), Minerals, Prebiotics MOS (Mannan-Oligosaccharide), Glucosamine (175 mg/kg), Chondroitin (125 mg/kg), Yucca Extract (500 mg/kg), Cranberry (100 mg/kg).

Chicken meat meal at 20% is the meat, and meal is worth understanding properly. It is rendered and dried on the way into the mix, so the water is already out and the protein carries through to the finished biscuit largely as declared. Behind it come chicken fat at 5% and chicken digest at 1%. The digest is a small amount of broken down chicken, and its job is to give the kibble a taste worth eating.

One species therefore runs right through the animal side of this bag. If chicken agrees with your pup, this is a clean and simple label to work with, and those are not as common as you would hope in this part of the market. If chicken does not agree, there is no second meat here to carry the food.

The plant side is the bigger part of the bag. White rice at 30% leads, with maize and barley behind it and dried maize protein at 15% in among them. Rice is gentle and easily digested, and barley brings fibre along with selenium and copper. Maize protein is doing a different job again. It raises the protein figure with plant protein. A growing dog gets a better amino acid balance from meat. The estimated carbohydrate of 50.6% of dry matter is the arithmetic of all that.

Dried brewer's yeast is a quietly good inclusion. For B vitamins there are few better natural sources, and it is a complete protein besides. Flaxseed oil at 1.5% adds plant omega 3, and mannan-oligosaccharide is the named prebiotic, a yeast-derived sugar that encourages friendly bacteria further down the gut.

The joint pack is printed properly, with glucosamine at 175 mg/kg and chondroitin at 125 mg/kg, and yucca extract at 500 mg/kg and cranberry at 100 mg/kg close the list. Starting joint support early is a sensible habit in a growth food, and these are readable numbers rather than a name-check.

In a puppy bowl calcium matters more than any other figure, and this label prints it. It converts to 1.09% of dry matter, inside the growth range and inside the tighter window large and giant breed rearing works to, where too much calcium during the fastest months is the classic mistake. Moisture is declared at 8.0%, so the dry matter column here rests on the label and not on an assumption. The energy figure of 349 kcal per 100g is a declaration too.

A 10kg pup aged four to twelve months would be looking at around 203 to 248 grams a day on our standard energy estimate. That figure will not hold still for long, though. A puppy's ration climbs through the fastest weeks, then falls away again as growth slows. Use the chart on the pack, matched to your pup's age and to the adult size ahead of them, and adjust to the dog you can see and feel.
