Ingredient notes

Meat and bone pellets and meat and bone meal fill the top two positions, a double helping of the rendering industry's standby. Concentrated and naturally rich in calcium, they push protein to a workmanlike 21.7% of dry matter. The species inside is anyone's guess, and the label makes no promise it stays the same from batch to batch.

Cooked wheat and cooked maize supply the energy, with estimated carbohydrate at 58.6% of dry matter against the 46.2% typical for adult dry kibble. Cooking the cereals first does at least make that starch easier for a dog to use.

The additive panel is more generous than the ingredient list: a full B-vitamin row, vitamin C at 50mg, and calcium declared at 1.5% with phosphorus at 1.0%, figures many far fancier labels never print. Salt also appears at a declared 1.0%, there as a flavour enhancer, and it is rare to see it stated at all.
