Canidae Pure Elements review

Our Good band verdict places Pure Elements level with the typical adult dry food. Its protein and processing reads Good while nutritional balance and transparency both read Excellent; the equal-parts recipe simply delivers more meat than its modest headline percentages suggest.

Ingredients, as declared: Lamb (13%), Dried Turkey Meat (13%), Dried Chicken Meat (13%), Sweet Potato (13%), Chickpeas (13%), Peas (13%), Chicken Fat, Potatoes, Fish Meal, Alfalfa, Gravy.

Everything at the front of this list is measured out equally: 13% each for lamb, for dried turkey meat and for dried chicken meat, then the same figure again for sweet potato, chickpeas and peas. The two dried meats have already lost their water, so they arrive at full strength and push protein to 35.6% of dry matter, a genuinely meaty result from a 13% headline.

Carbohydrate works out at an estimated 28.9% of dry matter, well under the 46.2% that adult dry food typically carries. Chickpeas and peas bring plant protein and fibre alongside their starch, and alfalfa contributes minerals.

Fish meal brings concentrated protein and omegas. The label never says which fish it came from, and the gravy at the end names no species either. Neither is a quality alarm, but a reader trying to account for every animal in the bowl cannot quite close the ledger here.

Ash deserves a glance at 11.1% of dry matter, on the higher side and a common trait of recipes leaning on dried meats, which bring more bone mineral with them than fresh cuts do.
