This recipe holds our Good band, level with the typical adult dry food, at the stage of life where an everyday bag is often quietly outgrown. It gets there on named fish, printed percentage splits and dosed senior extras, and the raised carbohydrate share is the flip side of the trimmed fat rather than a corner cut.

Trout and salmon make up 50% of the recipe, and the split is printed: 30% freshly prepared trout, 11% salmon meal, 4% freshly prepared salmon, 3% salmon oil and 2% stock. With the meal share modest, pea protein and potato protein appear further down to steady the total, and protein converts to a solid 27.2% of dry matter.

Fat is the deliberate story here, held to 8% as fed, or 8.7% of dry matter, which brings energy down to 340 kcal per 100g for dogs that burn less than they used to. The trade, as with any low-fat kibble, is a higher starch share: carbohydrate is estimated at 51.6% of dry matter against the 46.2% typical.

The senior extras are dosed rather than implied. Glucosamine sits at 170 mg/kg, methylsulfonylmethane at 170 mg/kg and chondroitin sulphate at 125 mg/kg for the joints, with the prebiotics FOS at 96 mg/kg and MOS at 24 mg/kg for older digestion. Salmon oil at 3% keeps the marine omega 3s coming from a named source.

On the plant side sweet potato comes first at 24%, with peas at 6% and potato and beet pulp behind, plus linseed adding plant omega 3s. Asparagus at 0.3% is the signature flourish, and calcium works out at 1.09% of dry matter, a comfortable level for an ageing frame.
