Ingredient notes

Fresh poultry meat opens the list at 30% with 10% dried poultry protein behind it. The finished kibble ends up at 22.0% protein on a dry matter basis, on the low side but not out of character for a diet food. The estimated carbohydrate share is 55.2% of dry matter against a typical 46.2%, carried by rice, 17.5% feed oatmeal, potato starch and an oatmeal waste flour.

The slimming toolkit is genuine. Fat is held at 9% and crude fibre rises to 5%, with dried sugar beet pulp helping a portion linger in the stomach. L-Carnitine at 200 mg supports the metabolism of fat, the reason it is a fixture of weight-loss diets. Energy comes out at an estimated 320 kcal per 100g, usefully below the 357 typical of adult dry food.

Transparency is where the label lets itself down. No species is attached to the poultry, its fat or its hydrolysed liver. Palm and coconut hide behind the words vegetable oil, and an entry like oatmeal waste flour says little about what it brings.
