Ingredients, as declared: Hydrolysed chicken 63%, sweet potato 6.5%, pumpkin 4.5%, sunflower oil, rapeseed oil, linseed oil, minerals (including potassium citrate 0.1%*), citrus fibre, cellulose, methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) 0.4%, mannan-oligosaccharides (prebiotic MOS) 0.25%, sunchoke, lucerne, dandelion, nettle 0.1%, fructo-oligosaccharides (prebiotic FOS) 0.05%, glucosamine 0.05%, chondroitin sulphate 0.05%. *Urine alkalizing. 63% of the tin is hydrolysed chicken, and no other animal ingredient appears on the label. No fish oil appears, which is unusual in a wet recipe and does make the animal side of this one very simple to read. The only plants of any substance are sweet potato at 6.5% and pumpkin at 4.5%.

Three plant oils carry the fat, sunflower, rapeseed and linseed, and the analysis shows why they are needed: fat is declared at 9% against protein at 5%. Converted to dry matter that becomes 42.9% fat and 23.8% protein. An unusual split for a dog food, and the intended shape of a diet that has to keep calories coming while keeping protein modest.

Potassium citrate is declared inside the mineral block at 0.1%, marked by the maker as urine alkalizing. Citrus fibre and cellulose supply the fibre, cellulose being a purified fibre powder chosen for bulk rather than for nutrients.

MSM is dosed at 0.4% and mannan-oligosaccharides at 0.25%, with glucosamine, chondroitin sulphate and fructo-oligosaccharides each at 0.05%. Calcium comes out at 0.81% of the dry matter, and the vitamin and trace mineral doses are printed individually.

Energy is declared at 113 kcal per 100g, and the carbohydrate estimate is 4.7% as fed and 22.3% of dry matter. For a dog of 10 to 20kg the guide suggests 550 to 920 grams a day. Whether a renal diet suits your dog, and which one, is the call of the vet who has seen the results.
